To all REC Users:
This is to announce the latest release of Remote Echo Control, version
1.20, and briefly tell you about the major changes between version 1.10 and
this one.
The largest two changes are Echo Tag Validation and Automatic Cleanup.
Echo Tag Validation will compare any echo requests that you would forward
against a list of valid echo tags for that Echo Hub. This way, you won't
be connecting a system up to an echo, just to see an Error message come
back from your hub that you have to manually correct with your Echo Node.
Please read the Sysop Documentation for a complete and detailed description
of this option.
Automatic Cleanup is a feature that will have REC automatically stop any
echos that are coming in from your hub and you are not importing or pass-
ing on to anyone else. Again, please read the Sysop Documentation for a
complete and detailed description.
I have complete re-designed and re-written the documentation for both the
Sysop and the User. The old formats were so hard to read and understand
that even I wasn't able to add the documentation for the new features!
REC now fully supports all of the AreaFix subject line parameters, and
the maximum size of the Echo Tag name has been increase substantially. You
can have more than once AccessName for REC, and you can even Re-Address
messages so that REC believes they came in from a different address then
they actually did. A few other optional configuration parameters have been
added as well.
A full listing of all changes can be found in the HISTORY.PRN file found
in the distribution archive, and you should read this before you install
the new version of REC on your system.
I hope you enjoy using REC. As always, feel free to contact me if you have
any questions or problems. I can be reached via the ZMAIL echo conference
or via direct net mail. Later!
